Inside the app

Features

PDF, Word and more

Open PDF, DOCX, older DOC, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, rich text, Markdown, HTML, CSV and plain text. Older Word files save as DOCX, older sheets as XLSX, and older decks as PPTX.

Edit, then save a copy

Use bold, italic, headings, lists, links and alignment. A spreadsheet can gain a row or a column, and a presentation can gain a slide. Save puts a new copy in Downloads/Docly, or in a folder you choose. The original stays until you save.

Write in more than English

English letters can be written in Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati or Urdu as you type. The app language can be any of those, plus English.

The story

Why I built this

I wanted to correct a letter, a note or a slide on the phone, and keep the file there, without an account and without uploading it.

FAQ

Does a saved PDF keep the original layout?

Saving an edited PDF writes the edited text. Columns, pictures and special fonts may not come across. A scanned PDF with no text layer has nothing to copy. You can still type a new document and save it as a PDF.

Can it open a password-protected file?

No. Docly cannot open a password-protected file.

What happens to Excel formulas?

Formulas are shown as their current values, and saving keeps those values. Very large sheets show the first 2,000 rows and 80 columns.

Does it upload the document?

No. There is no sign-in and no cloud library. Docly copies a file into the app when you open it, and the original stays untouched until you tap Save.
